Privacy Policy

Last updated: 1 August 2026 · Applies to everyone who uses World Maratha Matrimony

A matrimonial profile carries some of the most personal information a person will ever put online — income, health, caste, family circumstances, photographs of your children. We take that seriously, and this page tells you plainly what World Maratha Matrimony collects, what we do with it, who else sees it, and how to make us delete it.

We are the data fiduciary for this information under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and we handle it in line with that Act and with the Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011.

What we collect

We ask for roughly what a family asks for when it considers a proposal, and we try not to go beyond it. Wherever we ask for something, we tell you why on the spot.

  • Account details. Your name, mobile number, email address and password. The password is stored only as a hash — we cannot read it, and neither can anyone who steals the database.
  • Profile details. Date of birth, height, city, education, occupation, income band, marital status, family background, horoscope details if you choose to give them, your partner preferences, and your photographs.
  • Conversations. The interests you send and receive and the messages you exchange with other members, plus anything you write to us directly.
  • Verification documents. Identity proof, degree certificates, proof of employment or salary, and anything else you send us to get a verification badge.
  • Payment records. The plan you bought, the amount, the date and the Razorpay reference. Never your card number — see below.
  • Technical data. IP address, device and browser type, and the pages you visit, which we use to keep the site working and to catch fraud and bulk scraping.
  • Google sign-in data, if you use it. Your name, email address and profile picture.

Some of this is sensitive personal data in law, particularly health, caste and financial details. You choose whether to give it; the consequence of leaving a field blank is simply a thinner profile, not a closed account.

Signing in with Google

Signing in with Google is an optional, faster way to create and secure your account. We request only the basic profile scopes profile and email. That gives us your name, email address and profile picture, and we use them for exactly four things: creating your account, signing you back in on later visits, pre-filling the first few fields of your profile, and sending you service messages such as an interest notification or a membership receipt.

We do not ask for, receive or store access to your Gmail, Drive, Contacts, Calendar or any other Google service, and we never read or send email on your behalf. Google user data is never sold and never passed to advertisers. You can disconnect us at any time from your Google Account permissions page; that stops future Google sign-ins but does not by itself delete your profile with us, so write to us as well if deletion is what you want.

What we do with it

  • Show your profile to other members, and show you theirs.
  • Check that a profile is genuine before it goes live.
  • Suggest members you may be compatible with.
  • Send you service messages — an interest notification, a payment receipt, a security alert. These come with the account and are not marketing.
  • Take payments and issue refunds through Razorpay Software Private Limited.
  • Find and stop fake profiles, fraud, scraping and harassment.
  • Meet our obligations under Indian tax, accounting and IT law.

We do not sell your personal data. We do not rent it, trade it or hand it to advertisers, and we do not use your profile to target you with somebody else's advertising. If we ever want to use your photograph or story in our own publicity, we will ask you first and take no for an answer.

What Razorpay sees when you pay

Payments run through Razorpay Software Private Limited, a payment aggregator authorised by the Reserve Bank of India. Your card number, CVV, UPI PIN and net banking credentials are entered on Razorpay's own PCI-DSS compliant page. They never pass through our servers and we could not retrieve them if we tried. What comes back to us is your name, the amount, the payment method in general terms, and a payment reference — enough to activate your membership, issue a receipt and process a refund if one is due. Razorpay handles what it collects under its own privacy policy.

Who else sees your information

Other members see your profile, subject to the photo privacy setting you choose. Contact details are shown only to members on a paid plan, and only in line with the limits on that plan.

Beyond that, we share data only with the services it takes to run this site:

  • Google Firebase, for hosting, the database and file storage.
  • Razorpay Software Private Limited, for payments and refunds.
  • Our email and messaging provider, for notifications.
  • The KYC vendors used during verification.

Each of them gets the minimum needed to do its job and is bound to use it only for that. We will also disclose information where a court, a regulator or the law requires it, and where it is genuinely needed to prevent a crime or protect someone's safety.

Some of these providers store data on servers outside India. Where that happens, the transfer is made under contractual protections at least as strong as this policy and only to countries Indian law permits.

Cookies

We use a small number of cookies. One keeps you signed in, one remembers preferences such as language, and a few tell us anonymously which pages are used so we know what to improve. We do not run advertising cookies or third-party trackers. Blocking cookies in your browser is your right, but the sign-in cookie is what keeps a session alive, so blocking it will keep logging you out.

How long we keep it

Your profile stays with us while your account is open. Once you delete the account, the profile and the personal information attached to it go within 30 days, except for two things: payment and tax records, which Indian law requires us to hold for up to eight years, and a minimal record of accounts closed for fraud or misconduct, which we keep so the same person cannot immediately re-register. Messages you sent to another member remain in that member's inbox, in the same way a letter you posted stays with whoever received it.

Your rights, and how to use them

You can ask us at any time to:

  • Show you a copy of the data we hold about you.
  • Correct anything wrong or out of date.
  • Delete your account and the personal data attached to it.
  • Withdraw a consent you gave earlier, such as showing your photographs.

Write to concierge@worldmaratha.in from your registered email address, or from the mobile number on the account, and tell us which of these you want. We confirm within 48 hours and complete the request within 30 days. There is no charge. If you are unhappy with how we handle it, our grievance officer's details are at the foot of this page, and you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

Keeping it safe

Traffic to the site is encrypted in transit. Passwords are hashed. Verification documents sit in restricted storage, apart from your public profile. Access to member data is limited to the few staff whose work requires it, and that access is logged. Card details, as above, never reach us at all.

No website can honestly promise perfect security and we are not going to pretend otherwise. What we can promise is that if a breach ever affects your data, we will tell you and the authorities about it promptly, in the terms the law requires, and tell you what to do about it.

Children

This is a marriage service and it is not for children. We do not knowingly hold data about anyone below the legal age of marriage, and any such profile is deleted the moment we find it.

Changes to this policy

When we change this page we move the revision date at the top, and if a change materially affects how we use your data we will tell you by email before it takes effect.
